Spring is finally here! The glorious season when everyone starts moving again. Spring is that time when everybody is out and about, staying up late, being more social, and chilling outside more, getting pumped for the coming Summer. Then, as fall approaches and the weather starts to get colder, we begin to prepare for our own hibernation again. This cycle continues year after year.
I think almost everyone can comprehend that pattern pretty clearly, and to some degree, experience it within themselves. Whether we want to accept it or not, we as a species are a part of nature. We follow the same rhythms, and ride the same waves of energy that flow through everything. At this point in time though, humanity has become so far removed from the natural flow of things. We have gotten trapped in our egos, living through our minds instead of our hearts. Our minds, whose purpose it is to compartmentalize and de-construct, lead us down this path of seeing everything as separate, seeing ourselves as something that is not a part of nature, but something above it. In turn, we have forgotten how everything is connected, and how everything in nature is made up of cyclical patterns. By living our life through this mental lens, we keep pulling ourselves farther and farther away from the natural flow of things. And if we keep fighting against nature in this way, we become more out of balance within ourselves. We create what seem to be more obstacles and challenges to our minds and start to lose sight of our internal compass.
Let me guess, you are asking where do I begin? Along with a daily practice of meditation, another thing we can do to jump back on track with nature, would simply be living more in tune with the four seasons. And now is a great time to start, since we just had the Spring Equinox, and are moving into the season of new births, planting seeds and putting ideas into actions. Spring is a natural cleansing season, a time when the warm waters start to flowing again, washing away the excess earth and giving life to the land.
This is the time for spring cleaning, in all levels of your life. Physically, clean out your body! If you’re like me, you probably took the winter as a great time to slightly indulge in the pleasures of food a little bit more, which is perfectly natural of course, if done correctly. To keep us warm and grounded in the fall and winter, we should be eating heartier and more filling foods. Naturally, this leads to more toxic build up within the body. Then when Spring rolls around, the warmth starts to flush out the toxins out of the body, which is why a lot of people get sick this time of year.
Now is a good time to start to thinking about your diet more and adopt a more cleansing attitude towards the kinds of food you eat. You can start to eat smaller portions and lighter foods. Bitter greens are excellent to consume this time of year, as they help strengthen digestion, detox the liver, and help aid our body in the in the process of melting away the fat. Make sure to drink lots of warm or room temperature water to help your body flush out the toxins as it is way better for you digestive system than cold water. And don’t forget to start sweating more! Get up, get moving, get that heart pumping and start exercising more! This will aid the process of flushing the built up toxins from your system from the colder seasons.
Cleanse your personal space too. Physically, by clearing out all that crap that has accumulated throughout your house. Give your home a nice, solid clean down. As much as your home needs a physical cleansing, it will also need an energetic one too. Give your space a nice sage bath to clear out any negative energies from being a homebody all winter long.
Although we are a bit lost, nature has got our back. It will continue to fight against us, to push us back into our rightful place. Our being strives to be in balance with the natural order of things. To make our lives easier, all we have to do is start listening to our inner compass, choosing our hearts over our minds. Our heart is our inner compass, it’s what connects us back to the energy of this planet, our home. Only then We can start to tune in and connect, riding the waves of energies, and letting them guide us naturally to where our soul yearns to go. By doing some of these simple things, you are jumping on the waves of energy and getting ready for the more outward, mobile energy of the spring. When you become conscious of these changes and you can begin to work with them more, watch how things in your life will just begin to flow with ease with the natural rhythm of life.

Humanity today has lost that special connection to the places we call home. We have forgotten that this Earth we live on, and our own bodies are the housings for our souls. We have lost touch with the very things that support us, from the large communities we live in, to the foods that we eat, and even our attitude towards Mother Earth. We feel that we are separate, and in some cases, even superior to the natural world.
